Just Call: 912-681-3709 Mission Statement ShuttleGus seeks to build a more secure environment through the association of campus and community by providing programming to familiarize the consequences of alcohol consumption and by providing an equal opportunity for any individual under the influence of alcohol to use a free ride home. Values Security – The ultimate purpose of ShuttleGus is to help make a safe campus and community. A serious consequence to driving after consuming alcohol is driving while intoxicated. Driving while intoxicated causes too many deaths every year in the country and the community. Alcohol related car accidents are the leading cause of death for young adults ages 16-24. It is estimated that one American dies every 20 minutes in an alcohol related accident, and 2,000 Americans are injured in alcohol related accidents every day. To help change these statistics for the better, ShuttleGus wants to help the surrounding community by giving individuals a safe option to get home. By providing a free safe ride home to anyone that is in need of such a service, ShuttleGus can help make the community a safer place. Associability – ShuttleGus cannot operate without the help of volunteers and their community leaders. It is essential that the program have support from local leaders, businesses, and families as well as students and university leadership. ShuttleGus does not merely strive to create a safe campus, but also a safe community. Students, professors, and local citizens should not be a surprising collection of volunteers on a Saturday night, nor should the program’s sponsors be of one type. A joint effort is the only way to ensure a safer community and build a model for those seeking a similar solution to the alcohol related deaths and injuries. Familiarity – Students and community members need to be familiar with alcohol safety and must continue to stress individual responsibility. ShuttleGus provides programming to educate individuals on alcohol related issues, as well as the consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol. Through programming, individuals will become more familiar with the consequences of consuming alcohol as well as with themselves. Equality – Everyone should be able to help in some capacity and everyone should be able to use the services provided by ShuttleGus. Anyone that needs a safe ride home and anyone seeking to learn more through the programs offered by ShuttleGus should not be ignored.
